I just lost my German Shepherd....

.... Gus, after 13 years 6 months. I was compelled to post this quote. It some how gives me comfort and hopefully it will do the same for others that have just lost a beloved pet.

I am so sorry lonerwolf. I know only too well what losing a beloved furry companion is like. Gus lived a long happy life, no doubt as a result of your excellent care.

I do believe in the meeting in the hereafter theory. I am counting on it. I will have one heck of a pack when I reach Rainbow Bridge and I will be so happy to see them all again.

I have no words of comfort except to say that I am indeed sorry, and I know it hurts. Just hang in there the best way you can Lonrwolf.

What was your German Shepherd's name?

Edit: I now see it was Gus. Sorry, I missed that at first.

Sorry for your loss Wolfie,

Animal companions have a special closeness that is often beyond that of our human relations.
Get to a shelter near you after you have dealt with the emotional loss and there is a hole in your life and an emptiness in your house that needs filling and find another friend.
The shelters are full of animals deserted or given up by those in economic distress and
there's a dog waiting for you.

That's a good question that I've been pondering. For the first time in my life I'm thinking that I'm not going to get another pup. A dog has been part of my life since I was able to crawl.
Losing this one has hit harder than the others for some reason, but maybe it just seems that way since I'm just getting older. I'm going to give it some time.
I'd like to travel to Jamaica and for once not worry about how the dog is doing.
LOL I have a tendancy to torture myself in that way.

I wanted to ask but just didn't.

My parents' cocker spaniel died almost two years ago. (I actually bought him for them way back when.) I wasn't really sure if it was the right decision but I bought them another puppy a few months after Rembrandt died. I didn't think a puppy was the best choice but my mom loves the raising from scratch.

At first, I was not sure I had made a good decision but now I am really glad I did it. (Well aside from the fact that they won't fix him and he sprayed all over my house during the Christmas holiday.)

I love my dog, Madame Butterfly, to pieces. Also, I had my first dog, Champagne, when I was 2. I don't know how I would cope if something happened to Bfly. It would almost feel like cheating I imagine but I am just a dog person and will always have one.

Lonerwolf, you don't have to decide today, next week or even this year...if and when you will find another companion. None will ever take the place of your beloved Gus, he has his special place in your heart...

Just don't close the door completely, and negate the thought. You need time. Maybe Gus will lead you to a next companion. He is not gone, he is in another dimension.. is what I believe. I have to believe this, as I have gone thought this many times and I will go through it many more. I picture one horseback riding MinPin waiting for me at rainbow bridge, because Sugar Pie rode that horse in real life and when I lost that horse after going on 30 years, I was never so devastated. It was months before I could even type the words that he was gone....

As far as grown dogs needing to be re-homed is concerned. it happens every single day for any number of reasons. People are losing their homes, jobs, and lives. Just tonight I heard of a 9 year old Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier female, her owner has MS
to the point the dog can no longer be cared for, and there are calls out for a new home for her as I type this...I know the breeder of the dog and will do what I can to help.

A year ago I took in a foster 10 year old Mini Schnauzer that had to be re-homed because his 90 some year old owner could no longer care for him. I had him for a month and his new owners love him to pieces...

Hang in there lonerwolf. You will always miss Gus, and he has big paws to fill, but....
