Gross!

Some cats hang out along the canal behind my yard. The yard is sort of sandy. Some kitties sneak in and use the yard as a litter box. I have caught Barney eating cat poop .

What can I do (with harming the cats) to stop them from using my yard as a toilet?

put barney's poop there? Maybe the smell of the poop will drive them away

chicken wire, bird netting, twigs, mulch, hazelnut shells <span style="font-style: italic">all are humane ways of deterring the kitty poop problem</span>

how large of an area are you talking?

how large of an area are you talking? </div></div>

a small back yard.

Barney does poop out there but it gets picked up.

I think they cats are busting his chops.

You could try a homemade cat repellent:

Or, you can buy already made ones that might be more affected. My first thought was burying chicken wire or some such thing at the ground level, but really, cat's can scale most fences with ease.

I just ran across this quickly, but your local feed store might be a good place to ask, or even Petco I would guess...

Good luck! I don't know the quality of the specific product, but found it in a quick google search. It seems like a good idea to try a repellent rather than a physical deterrent, because cats being cats, they need to make up their own minds they don't like a thing.

I will be waiting for a report! Walter has been enjoying outside now, as my cats have a cat door (no litter box!)..I will be watching to see if he develops a liking for my gardens, in which case I will be trying a repellent as well.
