I was wondering how many get their pets yearly vaccinations. Alexander just turned two and will be due. I am getting so many conflicting opinions on this. Being told he does not need to have boosters only every 5 yrs years except for his rabies as this can compromise his immune system. They only give that tither sp test on older dogs so don`t really know which way to go. I am so scared of parvo. Any suggestions I will really appreciate.

It's a shame that I cannot tell you what the names of the shots are, but I have been using the same vet since around 2000 (for a different dog back then). To directly answer your question, yes I do get Butterfly yearly shots. She's due to have the next ones in November.
I have never heard anything negative about the shots. My dogs have lived into their teens so I don't think the shots hurt them.
Also, where I live, you cannot get any reputable groomer to groom your dog without providing an up-to-date shot record. -

Keesha I have a lot to say here, but it will have to be later this evening. In short, yes people are over vaccinating their pets to death. There is just too much cancer and other common malady's in our dogs these days! I put the least amount of chemicals in my dogs possible through everything from food to vaccines. Sadly, vaccines are not all alike! Some companies put all kinds of unnecessary junk in theirs. Shockingly, some veterinarians are at the mercy of the drug companies. It is big business if you think about it! Also, some vets will stick the distemper and rabies shots in your pet on the same day THIS SHOULD NEVER EVER HAPPEN! Rabies needs at least a 30 day window between the vaccine and ANYTHING else. No spay/neuter/distemper/kennel cough/no nothing..

You might drive your vet nuts CeaBee, but it is better than the alternative. I use two vets. One who understands the Jean Dodd protocol, (she practices holistic/chiropractic, as well as regular Vet stuff, and one vet who is 40 miles closer, but who will stick whatever he can in the animals while they have there there, because when it comes down to it... most people want to just get it over with and don't want to pay two office calls. They likely won't come back for the rabies alone. Not the best protocol and I believe that very soon this will be the norm. Well, then the vaccine makers will be crying ($$$) so we'll see..

I ran across this today and am so pleased to see there is progress in at least the rabies vaccine arena so far:
You will see it is a fund raising site but there is a lot of current info there to take in regarding changes that are taking place on the vaccine front, across the nation. I am excited as I hope to see the end to the more frequent rabies vaccines before I have to address it with Paris and Helga.. I will pay to do the titer test rather than succumb to this ridiculous poisoning of my girls by law.
