I am not talking about the occasional sudden sounds on the television that get your dogs attention for a minute or few, but actually watching.
Last night was the season premiere of Dog Whisperer on Nat Geo Wild. I haven't watched Cesar in quite a while so I settled in for a night of gaining insight into the topic of why dogs fight. It was a great show, by the way.
The TV wasn't on for a second, when Helga's head whipped towards the set. At first I thought it was just because the set turned ON, that got her attention, but it was far deeper than that. We do this routine every night, and Helga has never in a split second focused on the TV and watched it for the entire show.
Until last night...
Helga was so fixated on the show that nothing much would distract her, but she did look my way to see if I was still there during commercials before turning her attention back to Dog Whisperer. She had her head lying across my legs and staring at the set, which became uncomfortable to me, so I moved. Helga's head moved too, into a new position, but never once did her eyes leave the set.
I was dying laughing it was so funny and I wished I had a camera. Well, someone did, and sent the pic to Cesar and he posted it on Facebook. Funny Bulldoggie was also watching, and according to the comments, a LOT of dogs like to watch this show.
From Cesar on FB: "I want to give a shout out to Amanda M. for sending in this photo of her English Bulldog Vito watching the show last night. As for Junior, he was falling asleep by my side—nervous, excited dogs don't interest him

I must admit to this afternoon browsing through the dish channels on Nat Geo and Animal Planet looking for something Helga might want to watch so I could have a quiet afternoon! Sigh, the TV babysitter was not available so I did the first best thing and actually trained my dog so I could quietly work. Helga is growing into quite the young lady and if she turns into a Dog Whisperer junkie that's OK, the show is great, Cesar is the bomb and gets the job done.
