<span style="font-size: 17pt">Cats killed, firefighter hurt in Whitesboro blaze</span>

WHITESBORO —

Two cats were killed and a firefighter was injured in a Tuesday blaze that was ignited when <span style="font-weight: bold">a cat tipped over an ashtray that had a smoldering cigarette in it, village Fire Chief Peter Sobel said.</span>

Smoke and flames were visible at 15 Dale Road when police and firefighters arrived shortly after 5:10 p.m. The road runs parallel and to the south of Oriskany Boulevard.

Sobel said resident Sara Vore and her 10-year-old daughter were home when the fire erupted, but escaped unharmed.

Sobel said the fire started in the rear of the mobile home and spread to a shed and nearby woods. Oriskany fire crews were assisting Whitesboro with the brush fire.

An ambulance crew from COCVAC was called to the scene to treat a firefighter who had a cut to his left hand, Sobel said.

Yorkville firefighters were placed on standby, and Maynard was requested to supply a Rapid Intervention Team, which is available at scenes to assist and help with firefighters battling the blaze.

National Grid also was summoned, and Red Cross officials assisted the family with basic needs. The house was considered a total loss, Sobel said

Bystander John Ambrose, of New Hartford, said he came to the scene to check on his sons who are with the Whitesboro Fire Department. He was a volunteer firefighter in New Hartford for 15 years.

His son Zack Ambrose, 16, has been volunteering for Whitesboro for a little less than a year, and his other son, Josh Ambrose, 19, has been volunteering for three years, John Ambrose said.

“It’s been in my family for 50 years,” Josh Ambrose said. “I wanted to serve my community, and the easiest way was to become a firefighter.”

oooo...I know...let's really teach him a lesson and send him $5.00 wid evry letter, pledge $5.00 with every call, and force him to do something, like, I don't know...send all your hate mail money to Katrina victims. Have you listened to his show? Really?

My madda always seh, stop majoring in minors. I'm sure, he's no where near your cats, or anyone's for that matter. Do you actually know this man? Remember to put your return address on the letters, just in case someone goes postal and send him cat hairs. The station would probably need to know who to lay charges on.

It's obvious to me and everyone else that peasie was just joking around..but am curious as to what charges would come out of sending cat hairs.
