Driving with pets in your lap

I know some people do it, I see it now and then. How about you all? Do you let your dog sit in your lap while you drive? Do you see it very often? They are making a new law about this in Tennessee that sounds like it could sweep the nation.

I don't drive with a dog in my lap ever, unless the dog is seriously ill and I am on my way to the vet in an emergency. I always worry about the air bag going off, it would likely kill a MinPin or Toy Poodle size dog for that to happen.

Do you suppose enough people do this there needs to be a law made against it?

I know I should get seat belts for the girls, I haven't done that yet so they have the back seat to sprawl across as they please. If we were in an accident they could really go flying. Paris's breeder had her one day a couple of years ago and they hit a deer on the highway and Paris went flying. Thankfully she wasn't hurt.

I do keep the girls in the back seat, at least. but it really isn't good enough.

years ago i had seatbelts for the dogs because we used to do long drives. Right now we have an SUV and he does ride in the back but again he does not go far - the vet & the groomer & the ride around the block when he gets out of the car.

Yesterday I saw a man trying to park his car with a pet on his lap one hand on the wheel, the other on the pet. People can lack common sense sometimes

a law, while I dont agree with the concept, just label it as dangerous driving and be done with it

I see people driving with small dogs on their laps (head out drivers window) pretty much daily in So Fl.

Barney sits in the back seat. I do not have a seat belt for him. I wish that I had gotten him used to one when he was younger.

I am feeling like a bad dog mom once in awhile for having Paris &amp; Helga loose in the car. I know I really should do something, we travel mostly at high speeds on the highway. Helga adopted the position of passenger side right, with her head on the armrest when she isn't looking out the window. Paris doesn't dare sit in that spot, Helga will whine, then I will yell at her for whining then all of us get irritated so they each adopted their own corner, lol. Both of them mostly curl up in the back seat in their respective spots whether I am in the car or not. It is fun to watch their heads pop up when I use my remote door unlocker as i approach the car.

Ultimately, it is leave the windows down, dogs in car in the shade on a warm day if I have to run into a store/anywhere and they are with. With Rose &amp; Paris I could do that, and leave a 500.00 bill on the dash on top of it. We are not quite there yet with Helga, and it will be awhile since she is just a baby still.

Give Barney a little head scratch for me, but he might not like it my hands are still cold from an earlier ride to the beach with Helga.
