Last year I posted elsewhere a list of the "can do's" for this time of the year.

Feel free to add your secrets, solutions and systems.

Wiping Ceilings...

I will be the first to confess that this was not something I used to do. The cobweb broom was just about enough [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

These days we have Swiffer, Mr Clean etc etc etc . Of course, there is the old-fashioned way...

THE HOW: Dampen an old tee shirt with a solution of vinegar and water. Tie it to the end of a broom or mop handle or any handy piece of stick.

Go ahead and wipe, making sure that the cleaning cloth is changed as needed to ensure you're not wiping dust all over.


Before you laugh, give it a try. You'd be surprised to know where dust settles.

NB...Baking soda can be used as a substitute for Vinegar

Cleaning Windows

With the snow gone (going ), attention can now be re-focused on your windows.

A solution of vinegar and water can be used to wash them. Dry/Polish with newspapers [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

What to look for and what to do when terminates "spring" into action

Pencil-sized mud tubes running across masonry from the ground to wood portions of the house;

Distorted or bubbled areas of paint on wood surfaces; and

Sagging wood structural elements, such as floor joists, beams or sills.

Homeowners can reduce their chances of termite damage by following these steps:

Look for excessive moisture in and around the home, and eliminate it. Basements, crawl spaces and spaces under sinks are common problem areas;

Trim siding or stucco at least six inches above the soil level;

Maintain clean gutters and down- spouts;

Move firewood away from the house. Ideally, woodpiles should be off the ground as well;

Eliminate points of entry for termites by sealing cracks in the foundation or siding; and

Consider a bait and monitoring system.

Outdoor Furniture
inspect your outdoor furniture for corroded areas and clean up dirty areas with sponges and scrub brushes.

TIP...
Clean non-metal patio furniture with a mixture of white vinegar and water. Use a half cup of vinegar for every gallon of warm water.

maybe using a leaf blower to blow the dust down and then vacuum the dust up? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

this is also the time of year to get ur air conditioning units serviced as well as to get your chimney swept for the exhaust pipes for the furnace as well as the fireplace.

kia did not know she had another chimney in the house till a few weeks ago..

Spring is here and we all know what that means—spring-cleaning! This year, why not clear your house of clutter, and make some money at the same time? How? Simply clean out those never-used items, then have a garage or yard sale to sell your goods. If you sell your clutter to someone else, it will never have the chance to creep its way back into your home. You can even try recruiting friends to make your garage sale a blowout clearance event.

Start with the Bedroom

But first, you must tackle the clutter. Start with the bedroom closets. You have to make the switch from winter to spring clothing anyway, so it's the perfect time to reevaluate your wardrobe. As you gather your winter wardrobe for storage, set aside any clothing that you haven't worn all season (or haven't worn in years), doesn't fit, has holes or permanent stains, or you know you'll never wear again. Save these items for your garage sale, and store the remaining winter clothes until next year.

Clear Kitchen Clutter
Now move on to the kitchen. Kitchen drawers are notorious for storing too much clutter—sometimes they even earn the nickname "junk drawer." If you have a junk drawer, it's time to tackle it and clear out the junk! Start by emptying the drawer. Put anything worth salvaging on the garage sale pile, and throw the other stuff away. Move on to other parts of the kitchen and part with any chipped or broken dishes, and old, stained, or broken utensils or silverware.

Sell duplicate kitchen accessories and reconsider any kitchen tools you haven't used in the last year. That 1970s fondue pot collecting cobwebs in the depths of your cabinet might be a cash cow at your garage sale.
