Ceiling fans should be adjusted for the season. In summer, the high edge of the tilted blade should go forward first, to force air downward. You'll know it's right if you feel the fan blowing down when you stand below it while it's running on high.

During the heating season, a ceiling fan's direction can be reversed to aid in heat recovery from the ceiling.
