Anyone here knows how to tile? How easy is it? Do I really need a professional or can I do it myself?

Re: Tiling
I'd guess it depends on the project.
There's a lot of measuring and cutting of tile involved. You are talking ceramic tile? Or quarry stone? as opposed to Vinyl?
You'd need to rent or borrow a tile cutter. You need to prep the floor or whatever surface you're planning to tile.
This sometimes involves stripping the existing floor covering and laying a subfloor.
I've never done it, but even my brother, the king of do-it-yourself is hiring someone to tile his new shower.

Re: Tiling
Compry, it is not that the tiling itself is so difficult...to me, there are two key things....tools, and subfloor....if your subfloor isn't right, you could be the best *tiler* in the world, and it will crack at grout lines, and shift in no time. If it is flat and stable, the tiling itself can be done with a certain amount of skill, and I belive spacials relations apptitude (cutting in the edges with ease). However, assuming you are talking ceramic or something, you will need to buy some small tools, and rent some others. If however, you are talking vinyl - easy breezy, and for such a small space, mistakes will be cheap! I will post a link with instructions when you tell us material.

Re: Tiling
Okay, there are lots of things here for you to go look at..
DIY Network
More stuff
Now, as you read, please keep in mind...the first site is a DIY site, and the second is (I believe) underwritten by a flooring company...
I am not trying to discourage you...I think you could very well do it...I am mostly concerned with the subfloor, and it's prep.

Re: Tiling
Home Depot give a free course (demonstration) on tiling with ceramic. I would call HD and check it out. I have had many friends do it themselves and I too am thinking of doing it this spring in my kitchen.
I am not saying that it will be a 'piece of cake' but if you take your time and do it right then you can most definitely do it yourself.
GB is right about the sub floor. My home is built on a foundation without a basement and I was told I do not need to install a cement basefloor. But if I were to do my upstairs bathroom I would need to install a subfloor prior to the tile.
Keep us posted. It sounds like a GREAT project!
