where to mount a flat screen??

first of all..hail up to the forum [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70459-hugs.gif[/img]
i'm being dragged kicking an screaming into home (apt) ownership..so i'll be plaguing y'all wid dumb questions [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]
i never really gave a hoot before about interior design but now i'm obsessed [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

so anyways..here's my dilemna :sigh:

my living room is long but not wide
window on one end..foyer against the far wall
the kitch is semi open into the dining area with a partial wall separating the living room..the wall has a cutout/pass through to the living room
the apartment comes with a new flat screen and I have no idea where to mount this thing [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70367-help.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70367-help.gif[/img]
logically the couch should go against the longest wall (which faces the kitchen) but if i mount the the tv on the opposite wall it would have to go below or next to the cut out..and i'm not too sure about that [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

the other option would be to stick the tv in one of the bedrooms and keep the old cart mounted tv in the living room..
what do you design gurus think [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70402-thinking.gif[/img]

you can play around with the couch...

I like to see the flatscreen over the fireplace or faux fireplace...

another popular spot is on a low entertainment unit

would the couch block the cutout...ie...is it lower than the cutout...

I would do couch back up gainst the kitchen wall (if you really want it wall mount) or low unit beside the cut out..

GB will come wid some fab ideas soon [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

waste a space that cutout...since the window from the DR would let in enuf light to kitchen already

yeh..but without the cutout I would have to walk ALL the way around [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] actually I wish the whole thing was really open with just an island..on the other hand there are a ton of cabinets [img]/forums/images/graemlins/bannana_purple.gif[/img]on the other side of that wall

I hate to design the room around a tv..i may do a low unit or stick it on one of the bedrm walls..the whole idea is that it saves space rite /o\

my .02
put 2 comfy chairs at an angle at either side of the cut out.. place a small table between them to hold the drinks & chess set

place TV on the long wall and place the sofa behind the window but not against the window. A nice rug should tie the room in together with a low square or round table could.

disclaimer: I am not an interior decorator nor do I play one on tv..

will have to see how that fits in with the rest of the furniture.. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70402-thinking.gif[/img] we have a buffet/china thingy that was meant to go against the window (not my style but /o\) [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

ets: scratch that..the buffet may work below the telly

I notice the american interiors (like on HGTV & DIY) and other such, always say the tv shouldn't dominate the room (that's my input)..

and my major suggestion is make your interiors yardy style, the mahogany furniture (or bamboo), the warm colours, pictures & accessories etc..

Yes..MS..I am concerned about the telly dominating the room..especially since it will rarely be used...
