What's the point of having these elabrett table settings complete wid charger and plate and glass wid napkin sticking out and all the works? How flipping practical is that?

Plus if anybody to just plops down ot the table dem gwey bunks down the things!!! is it just a beauty thing?

I like to see a nice centrepiece, but mi nuh undastadn the plate setting etales

I was at Pier 1 today and they've really got some beautiful glassware and dishware, the napkin rings are elaborate and wonderful and yes, I would use the stuff. If I had it, it would make every dinner seem like a celebration! But, more than likely, it would be sunday dinner and holiday ware.

oh I dont mean like that Nan, It's nice to dress a table for a meal . But some ppl dress the table and it just stay so the whole time, as a show piece. seen it on HGTV last nite, Design on Dime redo a liv/din room, adn the table had allllll the trimmings. Also saw one Cribs episode wid a rap star that did that, and i thought it was so ghetto, but i guess is a design thing [img]/forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif[/img]

I don't like the look too much, except maybe during holidays etc. I like a nice centerpiece, the more creative the better. But the whole deal out all the time just looks pretentious to me. Maybe I am old-fashioned in that regard.

I also think that it looks very pretentious.

I strongly believe that a dining room table should be used as often as possible, and I agree that it is not very practical because I wouldnt even use all that elaborate stuff on a daily basis so I would have to take them up everytime I use the table.

And can you imagine leaving it out and then when you are ready to use them yuh have to wash them all ova again because of the dust it would gather just sitting there! \o/ \o/

and another dining room that they use for everyday..
Its not the same table, and or rooms.

I have bought the chargers to do the same...and to put out my wedding dishes..
but my table in my formal dining room is a painted one with designs..
and the beauty of it would be hidden..

then again as mi said b4.. mi live de simple life.. to me it becomes a matter of more items to dust pon a daily and mi prefer dat mi use mi sinting dem rather than wait for special occasions...

but I do have my grandmothers china up in the attic

I understand the dusting thingy , but with the fact that i have a formal dining room, that I dont use on a daily basis, and a nother room for daily eating, I think I could get away with the formal setting..

My husbands babysitter (an older lady who had a wonderful spirit - passed away now) bought us these dishes from Macys and they were beautiful when I first saw them..
Its over the past couple of years that I have started to use dem, cus I didnt want to break any and I know she paid well for them......
but plate mek fe use ya..so now they come out on family gatherings, and holidays.. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70409-waytogo.gif[/img]

Nay me seh, me really want to put dem out and ting, but caz me have one "painted " dining room table, me just rather u see the prettiness of the table, dan put the dishes down..
Now if a didnt have a painted table, yeap, de dishes would be down, cuz I like de look..
