looks like you went with blue paint...so GB can suggest some complementary colors to go with the wall color...

or you could just use primary colors...

LadyZ....check out www.poshtots.com [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] serious things over there...but even if one cannot afford the things....one can find a cheaper alternative..

I do like the wall murals...especially if one is not artistic...just paste it up pan the wall and pretend seh a mi paint ie [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

Miss P, I am sorry I am missing so much these days. My Dad has been pretty ill. I really like that mottled blue. I think some nice, clear greens (think spring, not sage) would work really well. You can do some nice clean lined furniture and so on, then accent with "theme" accessories if you want. I strongly recommend buying furniture that will last through the child's life. For one thing, I think changing tables are a huge waste of money. Babies can be changed on beds with something laid down (I always kept receiving blankets in the diaper baskets for this purpose). Oh, I also have kept baskets with diapers and wipes on each floor for years. Hopefully that will be over soon....

Anyway, how about a subtle tropical theme? I am not much for cutesy baby things. My kids room was based on some fun fabric I found, and I had the bedding made out of it. It has lasted 5 yrs, two sexes, and two house. The only that changed was the wall paint color - from a purple to a green. It has many years left in it, too, if I choose. I didn't buy new furniture, but I repainted the pieces white for a uniform look. Works just fine, and cleans up well.

Are you buying furniture? Do you want some suggestions?

AS for fabrics, I would truly stay away from character and themed things. Choose a fun fabric for window treatments etc, and solid crib bedding. If you have it made, think ahead and have a bed cover made. Babies are in cribs such a short time. I had a spread done, as well as the crib bedding.

cho man..mi nuh mean fi buy dem...you browse them and try to recreate them in your brother's nursery fi less than wah dem a sell it fah ....they serve as inspiration and yuh can put your own spin...

Michaels wil have some stuff that are unfinished wood...you can paint the alphabet letters with his name and hang them in his nursery...in home depot..they have the big knobs (for little hands) that you can paint and put on the dreser....they even have some lightswitch plates too that are pre-painted....

as long as the crib/dresser buy up...then you just accessorise with less expensive stuff....and if you see an expensive sheet set....you can get less expensive ones at Linen and things etc.

I think some of the murals come in sections ( and you just use a clear glue to apply them to the wall...

I agree that changing tables are a waste of money...get a dresser and put the changing pad on top...place a mobile above so that he can be occupied with that and nuh try fight yuh fi come off the pad....

over the closet door you can also put a door organizer with little pockets....to hold brushes, toiletries etc...althought keeping toiletries close to the changing area is much better... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

stylish storage containers can also fit under the crib out of the way....the others can be placed on shelves...

if the room is small...get a handy man to install shelves on the wall....

I am not a fan of borders, but since he will be a little person on the floor....instead of doing a chair rail border ...you could do a border about 4 inches above the baseboard....he will have so much fun once he starts pulling up and looking at all the neat pictures on the wall... [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70409-waytogo.gif[/img] one that is 3 dimensional would be awesome...this way he can feel and touch (you can use felt to cut out some of the animals etc that you would like to use for the border)

We are in the process of purchasing a house and can I tell you how stressed out I am??? We are going to use the smallest bedroom for the baby since we don't plan to live there for more than 5-7 years and I don't believe a small child is going to need alot of space to sleep in. Anyways, this is the ideal pattern I am looking at when I take the natural light into consideration, the fact that it is not gender specific, and the decor can be grown into after the baby stages.

Okay, just checked out Skells link. Glancing through Debi Travis's stuff - two tidbits stuck out. Decorate for the parent, not the child. They will notice a lot more. Also, if you want a mural, put an ad at the local art school. $200 or so will get you a beauty likely (just look at their work of anything first).

So P, you are not giving to much feedback. I am happy to go get some photos etc of what I am thinking, but I need to hear some back ok? What did you think of the contemporaty tropical thing? green as an accent?
