I came to visit a friend in Trelawny, who had a problem with sound traveling from the downstairs of the house to an upstairs apartment & I came up with a great idea to resolve this problem. Having worked in the recording studio I observed many ways to sound proff a room. So I bought some 1/2 foam, folded it in half and covered it with a beautiful green linen fabric.I then took a machet and split long strips of bamboo, which I used to frame the fabric covered panel which was set in the middle of the door. It turned out looking much like an art piece & did the job of keeping the sound out from the upstairs room.

I have the same problem with a door that opens to the common hallway from my bedroom. I've been trying to think of a way to soundproof it.
Any ideas on soundproofing a 100 pound woman who walks like an elephant over my head at all hours??

Upholster your ceiling or her floor????Joke. If you hang any kind of fabric in layers or rugs on the walls, it will cut down the noise, Sound bounces around and off walls, but maybe you better just get used to.
In the apartment that Im living in Negril, we have sound problems. I can hear my neighbor sometimes who lives downstairs & not right under my room, but I live upstairs in a concrete building, with tile floors. My downstairs neighbor is maybe 100 pounds, but the sound travels.Im used to it & really & truly the sound is lost by the sound of the sea crashing on the cliffs outside my window. Life could be worse! Who am I to complain.

Re: Upholstering a door......
I love the apartment I'm in now and honestly, she doesn't bother me. It just amazes me that one so small can walk so heavy. Other than that, it's pretty quiet here. The door in the BR is unused so it's painted the same deep purple as the walls and my tall dresser w/tv is in front of it and that cuts down noise a bit as well.
I used to have a bedroom that was formerly a sunporch. It was insulated & heated, but had 2 windows that opened into the LR.
On the LR side they had blinds & drapes, but it didn't do anything for the noise, so I used foam & plywood, then covered them with drapery, eventually I got tired of the drapery and painted a mural on them and put my bed there, it made a great headboard.
The sounds of the crashing sea would definitely be a plus, I'm just waiting on Global Warming to put me closer to the shore.

This is a great idea making it into a headboard. The sound of the sea, brings soothing comfort to most situations, including neighbors who walk too heavy.
