Tulips, the heads fell off :(

Can't believe dis.... first time mi plant these tulips last fall and was all excited to see them bloom this spring.

The greens popped up, then 2-3 days lata the blooms came out, jus beautiful!! BUT, the very next day all the blooms fell off and now it's just the green part left [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

First, why did the blooms only last ONE day?

Second, will they bloom again or shall I dig them up and throw away the greens?

Boy that is a tough one. Could be the crappy spring. The weather has been so terrible bad and for us northerners, COLD. How about your soil, it is nice and rich or could it possibly need some amending? watering? That is all I can think of off hand.

Don't dig them up and throw them away! Just trim back the leaves when they turn ugly and they will come back next year, more of them!

did it rain on them? or was it very hot? just one day they bloomed? Are you sure a rodent or a deer didn't eat them off?

do not dig them up....yes, they should bloom again next year. I find tulips tend to get tired after a few years...and need to replant new bulbs....but you SHOULD be able to get a couple years out of them.

important thing with bulbs is to let the spent greenery just die there....don't cut it till it's brown and withered up.....that's what makes the bulbs bloom the next year.

Yep Loops, jus one day of blooms [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img] Ha ha.... rodents, yep... could be, cause mi love to feed them squirrels, so dem probably tink the blooms were a treat!! Oh well... enjoyed dem for a day!

Won't be there for next year... so will replace dem wit sunflowers, now please tell me they do last????

Yeppers sunflowers last a pretty long time. I leave them for the birds or whack a couple and put them in the bird feeder. That is if the horses don't find them first!

Well....RG, horses REALLY shouldn't be roaming the yard for they get into the flower beads and yes EAT my flowers! lol, but it happens.

My tulips have just started blooming! I love spring! Yes these are all from my yard except for the last tree which is my neighbor's in front of me. Very pretty to look at.
