Sunflowers are the national flower of Russia so you know that they will grow in colder climates.
Birds will go after the big heads of seeds when they're ready.

I just throw sunflower seed on the ground and it germinate within 5 days. Have to keep picking seedlings out of my garden beds...we feed the cardinals sunflower seeds and they scatter the seeds all over.
