and dem show mi pon a meter seh one a de central AC unit a plan fi dead soon

Dem show mi de price fi a replacement unit..

sooo... do I wait till ie dead or do I euthanize the existing one..

de way mi see it , every day mi noh buy ie is more interest mi a earn pon de $$ mi ooda spend pon ie

I do know that in 2009 or so the law goes into effect about the use of freon and am I not sure if it will be mandated that all units be changed over.. They no longer sell units with freon.

but i dont know how to compare like for like in this case.

eg we were quoted a Lennox HSX16 what is the equivalent on that side.

the HSX16 is energy star qualified
up to 17.25 Seer
R410A refridgerant
as low as 72Db noise level
Two stage unit

Call di wholesale people at 866-504-6455 and ask them.

we gave them the size of the area and the layout and they recommended a few choices to us.

I tend to buy my own stuff then pay for installation as I get the same warranty through the company and only would have to pay for labor because I have been quoted wayyyyyyyyyyyy more than what the unit acutally cost

And the reason is, there is no comparison between Goodman and Lennox. Lennox is the Rolls Royce of the Air Condition Industry, Goodman is a KIA. The 17 SEER X16 you have been quoted on is a marvelous unit, with extremely high efficiency. But yes expensive

Did you do the survey on the Lennox Site? If not do so, lay out what you are specifically looking for, that will determine the tonnage.

You got it partially right in 2009 the refrigerant known as R22 the popular refrigerant used in Air Condition Units (Not Freon? Freon is a trade name) will be no longer available,also no unit 10 SEER are below. But it won’t be mandatory that they be changed out. If you do have one that’s in good working condition or with some minor inexpensive repairs I would say continue to use it until it dies, should it fail before the regulation comes into effect then I would suggest you do the change out. Be careful when you are doing the change out that they are not just changing the Condensing unit (Outside piece) to 17 SEER while retrofitting the Air Handler (Inside Piece) to raise the efficiency to that of 17 SEER, make certain that both pieces and the refrigerant line set are changed.
I am kind of suspicious of a Tech, showing you some meter predicting that your unit may be going shortly, it sound like an old trick to me, frankly I would seek a second opinion, and shop around when you do plan to change or repair.

I know they are changing the outside piece. The quote also shows a replacement of a coil(up flow)? is that what you are referring to as the Air Handler? Never mind I think I saw a pic of the air handler and it doesnt look like a coil Is the air handler something that could have been changed out when a furnace was installed? I also reviewed the quote carefully and it is a 3ton unit.

There are some minor benefits, such as a rebate from the electric company but I think there used to be rebates from the manufacturer too? [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img] Let me go check again.

Ahhh sah… They are replacing and or retrofitting the coil? Be careful here, you just make certain you ask all the right questions on warranty and performance.

Will it void the manufacture’s warrant on the new condensing unit? Will the unit be just as efficient, as if the Air Handler was replaced in its entirety? Will the existing refrigerant line if not changed capable of handling the new refrigerant 410

I don’t know what price you were quoted I have an idea what it is anyhow, and something tell me you are paying for a total change out which you are not getting.
Although you may be a customer with this Company for years I would suggest you seek another quote from another reputable company as matter of fact go back to Lennox web site and choose one they recommend, then use the quote you have as a bargaining chip

By the way, can you tell me the name and age (How long you had it) of your old unit? If you cannot find it (the name) on the Condensing unit (Outside piece) try the Air Handler (Inside piece). You said a 3 Ton; if you don’t mine can you give me the square footage of your home?

Give me a few and I will be in touch with you; I want to confirm a few things you wrote with Lennox.
