Let's see...

Roses...think this is called a 'Dolly Parton'. This was the first bloom over a month ago, right now it's got little buds out for more blooming.



This is a heirloom rose that I inherited with the yard. Tough little rose bush that sends out a profusion of blooms in late May.


Lilies...one of my favourite. It completed its blooming in early June. (I was still busy planting stuff during this time.)


The asiatic lilies flopped over! We extended the upper deck and it covered a portion of my sunny garden bed, making it partial shade and I think my asiatic lilies struggled. Come fall, I'm separating and moving the bulbs.

Clematis...one of my favs. This is planted along side the shed and it makes its way up a wiry makeshift trellis. Every year I plan to do a better trellis and forget. I only managed to take one pic of my Clematis but it's still sending out flowers.


Almost forgot my tiger lily...the last of the blooming lilies and a lovely plant. It sits infront of a hardy hibiscus and got knocked over. The last of its blooms fell off on Friday.

Daisies...can't remember the exact name. This is an annual, but I've been overwintering it in a container that has a tropical hibiscus in it...3 years now. think I have 3 different colours in the pot.





Orange butterfly weed growing amongst what I think is a yarrow. My big butterfly weed did not make it this year...don't know why and it's a native plant


One of my many yarrows...I had to cut them back to make the new growth come out with vigor.

Native day lilies...these were out of control, so I went to digging and chopping and replanted and gave away. Always try to reuse in different area as much as possible, but sometimes it becomes just too overwhelming...


I love them for the bright orange colour and they are a favourite with the monarch butterflies


Hibiscuses...I've got 2 tropicals. lost one over the winter and 3 hardies. The tropicals I overwinter each year. The hardies, I cut back to the ground.




Hardy hibiscus is the white and pink in background. See my painted wash tub...did that myself few years ago.

some plants I just can't remember the name. I'll make a guess that this is a tropical daffodil. This suppose to be an annual bulb but it comes back every year and never produced flowers. So this year I moved the bulb and divided it...now I have 3 and so far this one bloomed.



I know the name of this...just can't remember it. Some years ago, Suesumba showed us pics of her's and I fell in love with the plant. Get it every year and plant them in numbers along side the shed...they love full sun.


Another of my favourite annuals that keep coming back every year. I have been noticing that plants that were called annuals for zone 6 seem to reseed each year. One of my fav...last year it was a mix of colours, this year it is straight up yellow


I love coreopsis...from the oddly named 'tick weed' to these little fellows that come in yellow and pink and a bluish colour.

una...long time no see. Any time I see your name I remember that beautiful brugmansia you posted a pic of ... do you still have it? I have 2 brugmansia that aren't doing too good.

I'm in zone 6/southwest Illinois, where it gets humid and I can keep a variety of plants going throughout the year.

Purple coneflower ... what is a garden without these beauties. I did lost several. mi gave them way too much water it got root rot. These are hybrids and I'm trying to get the native type called "Tennessean echincea" or something like that.

Part of my shade garden. construction work going on and I had to move plants big time... made me bex but the construction was my idea to put in a concrete deck below for a little tropical oasis of potted plants [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif[/img] my husband knows that I'm nuts about plants.

I think I got this plant in Saint Lucia bout 3 years ago...bring it in every year and put it back out. Very easy to propogate, just break off a piece and stick it in the ground. This sit alongside the sycamore tree

Mandevilla..the college had a garden sale in april. i went plant crazy and got this for 6 bucks.

When I lived in Barbican as a child, we had Ixora galore. I think my love for gardening developed in that yard. I found this ixora at the garden sale at the college...I paid 2 bucks for it!

My lovely bougainvillea. trying to find another one but guess I'll wait 'til next year.


Containers...I find that old wash tubs make good containers. Just clean them with a scour pad and spray paint black then paint on some fanciful design. my art work is very amateurish. (LOL!)



My garden work area is built around the hackberry tree. this day a squirril palaav pon di tree and started cussing me!

Think I out did myself and will stop here. There are so much more stuff growing in my garden as flowering or foliage plants. I've never limited myself to what is grown in this area...so it's a labour of love. Still working towards that tropical oasis.

I have banana plants in the yard and use giant taros (aka elephant ears) planted in the ground as companion plants for the bananas. A veggie garden with cucumbers, okras, peppers and egg plants, as well as an herb garden bed are flourishing.

My daylilies have bloomed but I haven't gotten a shot of them. </span>
