It froze last night, and this am I am outside looking at frozen plants, and much to my horror, the fish pond is empty. I let out a screek, and run for the garden hose... of course it is frozen too.
Its 5:45am, -5, dark still, I am in my housecoat. Ras shouts at me, "get a pan of water man". I roar into the house, and look about madly for a pan. The dutchy is the biggest I have. Fill it with water, run outside. The 2 gold fish (they are quite large) are laying on their sides, not moving, in about a inch of water. Half frozen no doubt. Their pond is 55 gallon.
(Yesterday, I had bought a fish tank from Walmart, to put them in for the winter)
I have the pan of water now, and grab the fish net. Ras, tells me to put the pan down man, get the fish. Now I am frozen with net in hand, thinking how can I scoop them out, duh... Ras is down on his knees scooping out half frozen fish into the pan.
I roar back into the kitchen, the fish are moving, and splashing around in the pot. So I cover it with a cookie sheet, and hope they are not too traumatized.
Mean while, the puss, is up and awake, taking in all this action so early in the morning.
