How long dem tings suppose fi last?

what happens when de working ones dem get replaced? where do the older but working appliances go?

Ten years or more, in my experience. Most places you buy from will take the old one away, working or not. However, if it is working, I would offer it on Freecycle first.

If you pay the store that delivers your new appliances to take them away they are scrapped. They are taken to a center where the freon is removed from fridges and dissected for the scrapyard, that's it. When I worked in recycling we would get hundreds a week.

I salvaged an almost brand new sears gas dryer from one truck. The guy who had it moved and his new house didn't have gas hook ups! Well, neither did mine but I had gas hook up installed and took his dryer home and I have been using it for years and don't even want to get another electric dryer.

Other reasons people threw out perfectly good working appliances were:

they had to get a new washing machine but the dryer didn't match so they would buy both. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif[/img] Such a throwaway society we live it it is so sad! [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crybaby.gif[/img] Same way with stove & fridges. When my area of appliances would get too crowded I would smash
perfectly good appiances with my front end loader, now that hurt.(not fridges though)

While we could take anything home we wanted to...sadly, we could not let the public have the appliances or the electronics because the cost of disposing of them is so high.

yes i was thinking of such a throwaway society and with the price of new things somewhat affordable, there is less demand for the gently used still in good condition stuff ..

I need to reconfigure the laundry room and will have to replace the washer/dryer as it is cheaper than building out to make the space work but i would hate to think it goes in a dump when it works perfectly fine.. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70394-bawlout.gif[/img]
