Kia, how old is your house?

If the water supply pipes are not copper of brass then chances are they will need to be changed at some point. As others have said, it also depends on the condition of the water in your area.

If it's not a huge problem now then I wouldn't be in a hurry but you may want to start putting a little bit away each month so when it eventually has to be done it isn't such a strain on the finances.

what it sounds like is that if a house is over a certain age and if you are considering projects which will involve plumbing work a bit more than just addding fixtures, an upgrade of the plumbing pipes itself will have benefit.

it was the 1st I had heard of it and since I dont see roto rooter trunks in the area it made me think.
