I have used mine as a planter for 8 years and it is doing just fine. Making it into a foorstool is cool, though. Why not just use it as is for storage. They are neat looking.

It's aluminum, right? Actual aluminum?

It won't rot away underneath plant(s) and soil and water. Aluminum won't rust.

But you could also find the biggest plastic liner that fits into it, and use that to contain the palnt(s) and soil. Use dried spanish moss to stuff between the plant(s) in the plastic inner liner and the aluminum tub sides, and pull the dried spanish moss over the top edge of the inner pot.


You could also use it for storage (rightside up, with a pretty piece of hemmed fabric (that matches or blends with furniture in the room) laid over the top.

Or, you could paint it (bottom too) prettily, and use it - upside down - to cover over a smaller thing that holds items for storage. This way, you could let it do double duty also as a low table, like a coffee table.



Get a REALLY GOOD-LOOKING fake (silk) plant or tree. Set that into the tub. Cover and fill in with dried spanish moss. Done right, it'll look real, but not require any maintenance.

It will rust,if the galvanic coating is damaged.
