Reupholstering a chair

I bought a great chair at the antique store last year for $25 [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] that I want to reupholster this summer.

The chair is about 50 years old and is solid thru and thru but has great lines to it. I want to put a black laquer paino-like finish on the wood part and find a cool fabric to cover it it.

I cant decide if I should attempt to do it myself or should I get it professionally done.

has anybody done something like this themsleves, or has experience sending it to a furniture reupholster? what was the cost like?

it should no prob to strip an refinish de wood pawts but de fabric may need de proper sewing machine. If it have button den yuh need smaddy who know how fi press de button dem.

my concern is getting the chair disassembled. the way it is put together makes it look like it wouldnt be easy to re-assemble. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70402-thinking.gif[/img]


what kind of tools are needed to pull the chair apart? cant your pappi take a short drive out to my neck of the woods [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img]

dat chair nuh look too ergonomically friendly atall.

You should be able to see which screws hold the seat cushion and the back to the chair. You can disassemble from there, take the seat an chair back to an upholsterer and have him re-do those.

actually quite the opposite. It is really comfortable to sit in for long periods of time.
