The first house (the one I took 3 pictures of) is my favorite house in the neighborhood. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70371-jump.gif[/img] It has been recently renovated so it is larger than most of the homes in the community. However, all of the lots are about that size (.50 acre +) so everyone has plenty of yard work to do to keep their grass looking so green.

Ok got outside to take some photos of mi poor dilapidated lawn.

Rhododendron plant in the front yard, one of 4, that needs serious pruning.

This weekend I am going to go at my lawn with a chain saw and plenty of lawn and leaf bags. I have a composter in the back yard that is already busting at the seams from last weekends clean-up. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70409-waytogo.gif[/img]

Thank you. I wish I could take credit for the neighborhood. Unfortunately we have the "eye-sore" yard.

Does anyone else have this vinca vine in their yard? Do you guys think I should keep it and just trim it back, or get rid of it and mulch the flower beds?

hey if you chopping down the holly bushes watch out for bees because they are out & about the holly bushes lately

a from yesterday i was going to make a plea for you to keep the vinca. this time a year (spring) you suppose to a get nuff blueypurple flowers from them. i think they look better than mulch for under trees, and for areas where you have alot of greenery (as opposed to flowers). just cut dem back lickle from around the hostas.

Kia, there are tons of bees in those Holly Bushes. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek2.gif[/img] I am going to have to wear full armor when I chop them down. They are also pretty badly diseased. Who plants things that closely to the house?!?

MG, When I first moved in there were loads of flowers on the vine. It was really pretty. I think cutting it back would be better than getting rid of it completely. It is just overwhelming to think of how to tackle this jumbled up mess.

In fact, it just looks like u need to buy a edger, and a spade and neaten the lawn, pull out some of the vinca, and mulch..
as fe de holly, me a go wish u good luck in trying fe get dat out..
U definately need a saw fe dat. As fe de roots, u gwan go need a pick ak, cus dat nay go come out easy with a simple shovel. u gwen go need Reds elbow grease..

as fe de vinca, cus me have dem too, but a variagated one me have..
dem have underground roots, and oh how dem spread. so u pull, is like u motivate dem fe grow..
U know how many stranger me invite a me yard fe weed, and tek some..

My sister was telling me that the Vinca would be near impossible to get rid of b/c of their roots. I am leaning more and more towards thinning it out and cutting it back from the yard. It is a jumbled mess b/c it pretty much continues like that around the entire yard, trees, and down the driveway. I do think a vine party is in order. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70409-waytogo.gif[/img] Anyone interested? [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

This weekend we are tackling the leaves and some of the weeds in the back yard. I know it is going to take a lot to get those hollies out. :sigh: I am hoping to get to them soon. I will take more photos if there are any results worth talking about.

as fe de thinning out, dat is all u can do, but be encouraged, as it going to be at least two years rest, before u haffe start de hauling and de digging out again..
