so mi nayba will tek the older appliance it is 4 yrs old but it was upgraded to fit in a difference space and for more water efficiency.

We have a few around the place, but I figured it was a classy name for city dump.

Yep, this is the kind of place I worked. Only true junk ended up in the landfill, anything usable I sent to a re-use area. Electronics are not placed in re-use area because of the cost of the recycling people try to pawn off crap that doesn't work. The same holds true for letting people take the electronics. No could do.


Now where I live is too far from the facility where I worked but there is still a recycle/trash transfer station. I asked about a few items which I thought may be something someone would want and I put them aside so it doesn't hurt to ask! The idea is to help keep things out of landfills.

Yes, that beautiful mission solid oak sideboard was headed for a dumpster. I did have to peel paint from it but do you have any idea what it's really worth? HA!

Actually Pepper the Swap Shack part is a bonus. The transfer station is the dump, but the dumped stuff doesn't stay dumped there. Most that I've seen are quite organized and neat in a dumpish kinda way.

Household trash goes in a big &quot;hopper&quot; and is crushed and moved elsewhere. Larger stuff gets sorted into piles of wood, metal, etc for recycling. And usually they have huge bins for plastic, glass, paper even all those returnables. Truro has one where the returnables are used to fund one thing or another. School stuff, senior center, local scout troops... whatever.

In Truro, there's an older man who has worked there his whole life and uses his finds to decorate his yard. I'll post some pics later. He's like a local celebrity and has even been in Yankee magazine.

Yes, I would. I bought a used freezer for $100 that I had for about six years, and only replaced it some months ago with one that was smaller and more energy efficient. The old one still worked like a charm though. Here in Canada (not sure about elsewhere), if you buy a pre-owned home chances are good you get the major applicances with it. I kept the ones I got for about 5 years before replacing them, again with more energy efficient ones.
