Covering a light fixture

So, I changed out the lighting system I originally had in the TV room/office downstairs. Now I have a gaping hole in the ceiling and cant figure out what I can use to cover it up.

The light has a power cord that cant run into the ceiling so I need to fuse it to the ceiling and wall at some point and paint over the cord so that it blends in. In the meanwhile, I dont know how to rectify this:





kinda hard to see but the electrical stuff is exposed at the top.

1) I like the lighting fixture.. I live wid mrTraditional so I couldnt bring that into my home..

2) call an electrician or go to home depot cause he will have the special plate thing you need to cover it up

3) the electrician may know how to rewire the fixture so that it can go into the wall (if you so choose) or if you don't choose how about weaving the cord with a beautiful chain to give it the chandelier like look?

4) where did you get the lighting fixture.. I need a small area to be lit and am looking at recessed lighting but this may give it the funky flair I like

<span style="color: #CC0000">Thanks! I changed from a traditional 3-way light to something more funkier. It goes better with my couch - more the alpha kitty look I want to eventually achieve.</span>

another option would be to get a ceiling medallion
given the size of the hole though, you may want to consider making it yourself with a funky plate drilling a hole in the middle.

aha! they are called chandelier medallions..

here is an example -- it does not fit your style of lighting though

that is a great idea. Just need to find a modern looking one to suit the light.

I guess I could ask what could be done with the cord if it cant be wired back into the wall Cause otherwise the medallion wont sit flush to the ceiling.

i take it the fixture is actually a swag chandelier
and can be hung like this here

and if so, then u can sheetrock the hole, link a chain through it and you are set!

oh yeah you will need a little hook to hang the chandelier but much smaller than the big hole there..

yeah man, the colors of one of the lamps inspired me

I have one of those builder standard light fixtures, and I was worried that if I took off the fixture I would need to re-do the ceiling....the word is alluding me right now.....you know the popcorn stuff they put on that I hate.......anyway, I want to change the color scheme and the lighting needs to definitely change too but unless I found a fixture that was as wide as the original, then I'd have to deal with the ceiling issue.

Your suggestion will help me get around that

btw if you have recessed lighting and are bored with it, they do sell recessed lighting trim to jazz it up a bit.. am looking for a trim to go with a recessed housing that we plan to have installed in a dark 3x3 area leading into... yep .. the kids bathroom
