I think there will be early growing this year. The May full moon is early in may, so the weather shouldn't be too bad from after then for planting. You can always cover if it frosts during a cold spell.

Yup, I could cover them if only I was better at remembering to do so I've killed off much because I dont remember til 3 in the morning and cant bother to out of my warm bed

I just got back from the greenhouse and did buy a cheap lighting system ( $35) that hopefully I can mount with ease over my fridge. This should give the light and warmth I need for the seeds.

So, you use the first full moon as you planting guide? How does that work?

light is not necessary for the sprouting process...just warmth and moisture.

the lights are useful when the seedlings have sprouted their first TRUE leaves. the lights, if situated the right distance from the plants...will keep the plants from getting leggy. which they would do if you attempted to just go with natural light.

Okay, that makes more sense with what I was reading loops.

It just was not explained properly about what will make the plants leggy vs not leggy.

So, the lighting isnt as big of an issue until later in the game. And know I get why natural lighting isnt the best for the new seeds.

glad to help.

after the seeds have sprouted...and have real leaves...not those first two leaves...the ones after.

THEN you can concern yourself with the light....raising it ever so little at a time...as your plants get taller.

I have been reading that the lights should be between 4 to 6 inches above the top leaves.

Does that seem right?

i have been outside cleaning the crap out of the gardens today...and i am actually HOT. it's beeeeeeutiful out.

i picked a good day to be sick.

lots of green shoots, lots of buds on the daffodils...the gahden is alive!
