Orchid growing...it's a lot easier than you may think

i always said i wanted to grow orchids in my old age...and lo and behold...my collection is growing. they're getting cheaper to buy too...i find them in my grocery store for twenty bucks, sometimes cheaper. the real thrill is when they come back the next year for you.

these things bloom for months...NOT exagerating.

question - do you re-pot them ??? or transplant them?? or keep them in their original pots??

i keep them in their original pots...so far anyway. when they need watering...about every ten days or so...i just take the whole strainer over to my sink and spray the hell out of the plants...really drench them. let them drain and that's it. they MUST drain...no standing water.

all i do is water them...well...and talk to them ALOT.

I definately haffi beg Mr. to grow me some of that spectacular unusual flower you photo'd from Ja-Jewel's yard ... that blue-greenish one ~

you can buy those jade plants at Cranbrook Flower Forest....be aware though...those things climb high high high up into the canopy...so you'll need something for it to climb ON.

I just called to ask him if he knew of it by description ... no luck.

I will print the photos of it and bring it along next time.

he is so very talented with plants ~ and working hard to make our yard full of brambly bush and trees and such ~ he has many mango, coconut, banana trees, yada yada ... so - if height is required ... it 'might' be possible ~
