Thanks a bunch for the pictures loops. They do help a great deal. I had created an one inch "edge" around the pathway bed yesterday but it didnt seem to make sense because it looks like the grass would just grow over the divide in time.

So, I have to make a slightly wider trench and then fill it with mulch is what I gather from your explanation and pictures above.

This makes alot more sense now and I prefer the look. The black plastic edging material makes the garden look untidy.

I'll post some pictures of what I have done so far with the black mulch and the new brick edging I place in front of the window.

I like the black mulch but the verdict is still out out on the brick edging for me

dirt is black, so all it looks like is I have dirty round the flowers. Looks better than that washed out red mulch I had

i like your shrubs though...and the asters didn't bother me at all. i see you're one of those people who likes things neat and orderly, so when flowers flop...you nah like them anymore. you could always buy something to stake them with.




your shrubs appear to be a couple gold leaf spireas and a red barberry. i love the colors of the leaves.

i think a soil bed with a neatly cut edge looks better than one with brick or plastic edging.

i'm redoing my front yard to put back in grass because it's really the best for setting off flower beds.

Here is a pix of the greyish/black bricks I replaced the edging with. I took it first thing in the morning so the pix isnt too bright.

Not sure to keep or maybe color it?

Well that is why I said I dont know if I like it much yet. I just put it in yesterday, and there is no way in hell I am digging those heavy things up until I am absolutely sure I dont like them

can you lay them flat or push them lower to the grass? It will then blend in more.

loops - I definitely can dig them up and take them back....just not looking forward to all that work

those suckers were heavy

Once it bloody well stops <span style="font-weight: bold">snowing</span> here Kia I will try laying them side ways and see if that minimizes their appearance.

i did think of coloring the bricks so that they blend in nicer but I dont know how long that will last with our winters.

If not, then back to Home Depot they will go. I'll get my mom and friend to come help me.

Still looking for those mock orange shrubs MGee posted the other day. I think those will be nice.

those mock oranges always tempt me too nylah. i bought myself a kousa dogwood at the greenhouse the other day. saturday was a banner day for spending $$$$$ on plants.

Poor me indeed

The May long weekend is when most peeps around here descend on the greenhouses and start planting up a storm....instead we had the coldest long weekend in 10 years i had money in my pocekt to burn and couldnt even part with it

didnt even get to enjoy my tulips in the backyard for more than one week :fiyabun:

the Kousa dogwoods are lovely as well. I'll need to check the zone limit for them. Most dogwoods seem to do well out East than here but I really love the look of them and they seem like they last long too.

U buy anything else i should know about?
