i would rather be tarred and feathered than do a remodel

make sure you look at the windows, electrical and plumbing

i'm tired and frustrated just thinking about it

contractors never do what they say they are gonna do

and the projects always exceed scope

So the battle begins. Hubby wants to take out the walls at the front of the house that separates the kitchen from the dining room and foyer. I am dead set against it. Ay sah...and we not even start picking out tiles yet.

Yes a LOT of discussion gets to take place during a remodel. I think that is what took so long to get started because we talked, talked, designed, designed and then when we were ready to go forward we knew what we wanted.

Can you both do mockups and do a feel of what the space would feel like?

I remember we had a huge piece of cardboard to see if we could stand the island being as long as it ended up to be in the kitchen.

Today I had a floor plann drawn up of the extension to the rear of the house. My plan would result in the creation of

a master suite
3 additional bedrooms (one with only a skylight for the occasional guest)
and two full bathrooms.

Hubby wants to have a HUGE oversized master bedroom with a jacuzzi in the room and he wants to accomodate that by taking out one of the bedrooms...smallest bedroom but with the most natural light(currently the girls' room). So with his plan we would have

A HUMONGOUS master suite
2 bedrooms (one with just a skylight)
and 1 bathroom.


Now my plan is more practical because

The girls will each have their own room.
There will be a guest room.
They will share a bathroom but have the option to use the guest bathroom if they so desire.


The man's plan is not practical because

he will be taking out the bedroom with the most natural light
one of the girls will have a bedroom with no windows and just a skylight
there is no guest room and if we should have guests then one of the girls will have to give up their room.


Him seh him nah watch practical him a look pan comfort...me seh him only thinking bout feem comfort and not di comfort of the rest of di occupants and any guests. Him seh him nah mek no house fi accommodate no guest. So the man get vex and tell mi seh mi fi do it by miself an doan ask him fi no input...which is exactly wat mi did waan hear.

you have achieved the first step in remodeling.. eliminate the extra decision makers

btw I like your practical plan.

Please tell MrNonBlanks dat Jacuzzi is a pain to clean AND once in nobody use ie more dan so. Betta mek a luxurious shower with bodysprays-- this was per my contractor btw.. But I agree with him. Previous owners installed one two person jacuzzi and if it use 20 times since mi been living here dat is a lot. The shower however.. plenty use

do you have space for all without losing a room?

yes fi his &amp; hers sink

If u have room a doorless shower would be great

and while u at it, check into an upstairs laundry room.. that is where the clothes are

yes we will have plenty of space with the extension. We thought about using the closet that we will be building in the master bathroom as a laundry closet but the current laundry room is adequate as it is a big room, will have a tub so i can do some good handwashing, and the back corner of the room will now serve as the new location of the walk in closet as we are gonna be using the current one as the spot for the new bathroom down there. So the closet in the master bathroom will just be another linen closet.

there are more style with the glass block

the frameless shower doors are popular too.. lots of wiping that down with the squeegee though
