I have a front loader too. I swear it is one of the best appliance purchases I ever made. I sincerely doubt I will ever hand make laundry detergent, but if memory serves, it was a specific type of phosphate that the big hoo haw was over here.
As much as love Dr. Bronners, I don't use it because I expect any phosphates in other soaps. Are you saying that harmful ingredients are in lotions, soaps, and toothpaste?

I dont know if there are harmful ingriedients in the lotions, soaps and toothpaste but I do know there are man made chemicals added to it. I feel more in control about what I use if it has ingriedients I can understand and use. Just like food if a third grader cannot read or if a product has more than 5 ingriedients - it is suspect -- <--- michael pollan

Kia, you must be some kind of psychic. I started to look for this thread last night. I spilled my laundry detergent (liquid) and didn't want to go to the store.
The one I found online called for 1 Ivory soap bar, 1 cup of Borax, and a cup of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda. I only had Ivory soap so off to the store I went to buy some Tide so I could finish my laundry.
