OMG! I have centipedes in the basement

Ok --- I am getting very squirmish but these things are scaring me. (Mi fraid a dem bad bad.) I know these have got to be centipedes, they are about 1/5 in length, have whole heap a legs, dem whitish brownish/tannish in colour, dem run fast. Omg, after yelling and screaming, I still managed to harm myself with a can of insecticide and a size 14 military boot, to spray and then beat the living crap out of it.

There are more... I saw one on the basement wall. : How do I get rid of these things? I don't want to be in the basement then seeing one bursting out of no where heading straight for my feet. Even worse, I literally froze in place when I saw the one on the wall, looking at me. I thought it was going to chuck off the wall into my head.

these require smashing with brute force... seem that boric acid is a good thing to spread around the corners of the basement. i want them gone.

I never had them anywhere but outside (knock on wood), but I say you just call an exterminator to come figure out how they are getting in and to get rid of them.

I feel you because I don't like pests in the house and certainly not fast moving ones.

That wasn't what I was talking about when I said centipede. That thing looks like a mutant roach.

Its Milepede season around these parts. I have no problems squashing them and sweeping them up.

I called a pest control company. They said centipedes are hard to get rid of... and probably they entered the basement via the potted plants that sit in the garden during the warm months and brought in for the winter season. The basement is very dry.

I'm really worried... just an hour ago, sitting at my desk <span style="font-weight: bold">UPSTAIRS</span> working and on a conference call... my eyes glimpsed something running along the base board and into a corner and started crawling up the wall. A small size centipede. I was so frightened I knocked over the phone.. good thing it was on mute. I killed it.

Mi worried since it nuh look like a basement alone they are in. Mi skin a crawl right yah now...and mi nerves gaawn up.

Sandi if it is easy, hard, or medium, it still has to be done.

Call more than one pest control company, and get one with a guarantee like Orkin who will come back if the problem is not resolved prior to their next routine visit. Also, check to see if they are licensed by the state and not just any ole fly by night place mixing up pesticides.

I don't know what plants y'all brought in the house but they need to go right back outside. It couldn't be that cold yet. Where you live?

There are also companies that will check the plants. I don't know if they are pest control, but we had an outbreak of gnats, fruit flies, or something at work a few years back. Whoever came checked every plant, and determined It started with one tall plant in the lobby and spread to almost every other plant in the office.

So here is the centipede update (all of a sudden mi skin a crawl and mi scanning the floor)..... The pesticide man came and sprayed around. Upstairs, downstairs, bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and the basement.

Imagine me going down the basement stairs.... mi feel like mi a jimscreech inna mi owna house to heck and nearly bruk mi neck as I jumped over few steps as mi see a big ole rackus dead centipede on the step. So imagine me vehemently killing an already dead vermin. LOL! I really had to laugh at myself but I needed that laugh, even at my own expense. So one dead centipede. You know to this day my husband has not even seen a centipede. Even when I'm showing him the dead sinting on the steps, he's saying &quot;I don't see a thing, Sandi&quot;. But anyway, he got boric powder and to line it all over the basement floor.

I just want those things gone, vamoose, kaput.

I don't know what a jimscreech is, but the name alone cracks me up. Help me understand this part though. You say you beat down a big ole dead centipede on the step, and your hubby couldn't see it?

Also, did your pesticide man spray outside the perimeter of the house too? I live in a heavily wooded area and killing pests before they even have a chance to get in is effective.

Be glad you don't have them dying all over the place. Let them take the poison back to the others.
