drowning in the paper of my life. bills and crap i'm afraid to dashweh. any helpful advice most welcome.


utility bills - how long fi keep?

wabout investment statements?

appliance purchase bills - any good after the warranty over?

Utility bills - pay then shred.

Investment statements: can you access your portfolio online? If not, save only two most recent statements. Otherwise, shred.

Keep <span style="font-weight: bold">large</span> appliance purchase bills. Others, shred.

invest in a shredder.. It will pay for itself time &amp; time again

You need a shredder Mgee, so you can keep on top of the paperwork. Get a &quot;cross cut&quot; one or whatever dem call it up your parts. The ones that cut criss cross and not just one direction ( since people like dig choo gyarbage and teef personal info)

It may be too much for you to tackle at once, so take a little at a time and shred weekly till you clear it up-you can then shred once a mnth while paying the mnthly bills

I am in the process of catching up on shredding myself \o/

I think the experts advise keeping stmts for 5 years and then shred.

thanks, kia and gen. to tell the truth, feeling a little overwhelmed and sorry fi miself. need some key papers for Monday and cant find them, instead finding all kinna useless utility bills.

i'll just pile the unwanted stuff in a box and get the shredder later...

u can also get a jump start by taking all what need shredding to a local place weh charge a minimal cost or sometimes it free. then after that shred at home as dem come een.

MGEE I doan know how dem do it in canada but if you can view ur statements online, you should use dat option and then no badda wid the paper for the cable &amp; phone bills

Those bills, when I did get paper copies I shredded after I paid cause I know they keep their copies for years online

Another thing I do is I schedule those payments to Amex and then pay off Amex at the end of the month (and earn membership rewards points)

Yes shred them. But while you are going thru the pile looking for the important documents, place whatever you decide to keep in separate piles, this way when you finally have time to really organize you won't have to be going thru the big pile again.

You could also ask a trusted friend (or neighbor) who has a shredder to help you out to get through your big pile now, and you can then easily do it once or twice monthly to maintain.

I helped an out-of-town friend who came to town when her mother died, and the friend discovered that her mother had kept boxes full of old bills and statements in her apartment. Because the friend lived out of state, it was impractical for her to carry home the boxes of stuff on the airplane, and just as impractical to mail it all home... so I took it an did the shredding for her at my house after she left and went back home. It took me a while to get through all of the extra shredding, but it finally got finished a few weeks later... I did a little at a time.
