I need HELP!

So I have a small room that's over a garage.

The room has 2 windows.

Short window faces the front of the house.
Higher window faces the side of the house.

Because it's situated of a garage, the front of the room is sloped.

Photos below shows the windows and how 1 is closer to the floor and 1 is higher.

Right now, I've just thrown up some cheapo curtains as place holders until I can figure out what to do. I hate the uneven look that the curtains give the windows. I mean - I KNOW the windows are different but it seems like the curtains just emphasize it even more.

What's the best way to handle these windows?

I'm dying for suggestions.

No way to get them even because of the slope. If the slope wasn't there I would say bring the rod up to ceiling over the short window to same height as higher window, however no can do.

I would use bamboo (or whatever shades you prefer) shades on both, and if you still want curtains, put the curtain on the higher window only. Get a longer rod so that you can get a full-er look and so the one wall of curtain nuh look too skimpy.

Yes and I was going to suggest the same thing. Shades on the lower window and curtains on the higher one

first thing I would do is paint the walls and ceilings to match.

Then I would forget about having a curtain on either wind, I would do slats or blinds.

IMO the curtains just make it look too confusing and not streamlined.

For sure, I was planning to paint - absolutely.

This room has stumped me for the longest, longest time now. I can't take it anymore. I can;t let Christmas come find me with it looking the same way after all this time!

But Yuri, you have honeycomb shades behind the curtains, right?

I would not bother with curtains at all, keep the shades. Then, like Tanya suggested, paint the walls and ceiling in same color, particularly the wall with the shorter window. Then maybe make the other wall - the one with the higher window - a focus wall painting it with a contrasting color.

Hey Peasie -

Funny you mention the floors – this is the only room in the house where the floors aren’t in mint condition. The previous owner had for many many many years, kept a piece of furniture in a spot under the window and it left a dark area after it was removed.

Anyway yes – every window in the house (except the kitchen and bathroom) has single cell honeycomb blinds.

Kia the floors in the house were already in mint condition. The woman who lived there before had the entire house covered in carpet - FOR 20 YEARS!

Yuck - but in the end, good for me. The floors had been completely protected all this time.

So when the carpet was taken up, they were like butter. Almost perfect. We didn't do anything to them really other than have someone come in and give them a professional cleaning, buffing, etc. This one room was the only room where there was any mark on the floor.

As for what room it will become - well, I'm a bit divided.

I may put a single bed in there and make it a small small guest bedroom.

On the other hand, I may just make it a little sitting room - go in, curl up widda cuppa Milo, watch tv.

I've had my eye on this the past couple months -



It's a chair and half type thing from Crate and Barrel, Oxford Twin Sleeper - it pulls out into a twin sleep bed! And there's a storage ottoman. But the chair alone is $1000 - and that's BEFORE tax and shipping. Don't ask about the price of the storage ottoman.

But I found an old lady in Chelsea who had it and wanted to sell it - craigslist. She lives in a 4th floor walk up that's hard as hell and she sustained a knee and wrist injury this summer. She can't operate the pulling out of the sleep sofa and so she's never used it. It was still sitting in her storage locker in the apt bldg basement. I made her show me the receipt - I don't care how old she is - I wanted to know how long she'd had it because I KNOW Mr. Yuri - he don't want no poopeena! As for me - I've never bought 2nd hand upholstery before but this was a special case. She was eager to get rid of it because she's moving.

Indeed, she was telling the truth and she'd only bought it in July this year. In fact when I pulled out the bed, it was still factory wrapped and sealed.

After much battle with Mr Yuri, I won. I bought it. $150. It was a steal - just couldn't pass it up. I have a reupholsterer and he's redoing it for me. The plan is to put it in the room.
