varnish the steps and for the landing maybe use some FLOR carpet tile to make a design you like

Then add the rug step tings to help preserve the floor

Do I still need to scrape off de red paint to varnish, cause I am NOT doing it

the soft wood dem mek the steps out of not worth scraping and refinishing.

if you want a varnished look you have to put in the hardwood steps and risers
