Jamaican vs American (and Canadian) Approaches to Owning Pets

Jamaica outside dog:

Sweet! I know of a few people who brought dogs both to the US & to Canada from Jamaica. I would have done it had I known it was possible back in the day.

the inside dog we had was named wowser he was a blue merle curly haired mix of some sort. My parents got him when my older brother was born. what is funny (strange not ha ha) is Tango is his twin just half the size and straight hair not curly. I bought him off the internet and he did not look anything like Wowser as a puppy, but he sure has grown to look just like him and act like him.

currently my parents have 8 or 9 Rotti Dobi mixes that seeing them interact with my dad you would think were total sweet hearts but last few times I went to visit they had to be locked up every time I came in the yard.

remembering the first dog that I can remember (mek sense right?)...a ridgeback that used to run inside the house whenever him hear thunder, and nothing mommy did could get him out .

me still caan find the picture of mommy Jamaican housedog, dress up wid bow in her hair? fur? she yappy yappy but not realizing that I'm not a dog person she seem to like me.

we had an inside dog named Tango and he was a ridgeback. He came from a UWI professor from whom my dad bought a car. The prof was going back to his homeland and Daddy loved this dog. The other dogs resented Tango as the "house dog" while dem outside as field dogs.

My dog was a German Shepard name Devil, got him when he was 3 weeks old Daddy had a dog house built for him because mommy did not want him in the house. When we migrate we gave him to Up Park Camp

My brothers did boil cane and Ga..a give him to drink, poor Devil did start act like him mad, those darn KC boys you see.

we had a yorkie who was an inside dog and several out side dogs..not even allowed to come pass the door :lol:

the cats were always inside/outside cats.

when i was young (9/10) we had a ridgeback i would let her in every night and she would sleep beside my bed and then i would have to let her out early in the morning.

no the dog did not sleep on the bed. yes my parents knew the dog slept there every night.

In Jamaica we had two dogs Polly & Rover and Brownie who had their own kennels in the back yard. They did not enter the house.. They were fed cornmeal porridge with leftover meats and a can of dog food.

Needless to say a few years later when I went to boarding school you could see my gag reflex when I saw cornmeal porridge being served as breakfast

That being said, our dogs in the US reside inside the house. They are not allowed on beds but do have their 'chair'

we had several dogs over the years, they slept in the carport.

cat slept on my brother's bed in his room, it was his cat. can't remember if the cat ever came to sleep in my room


anyhoo the cat wandered indoor/outdoor as him please.
