BANGOR, Maine (CNN) - A woman in Maine got quite a surprise when she picked up what she thought was a house cat, but turned out to be a bobcat!
She says she realized that the four-foot long, 30-pound "kitty" was actually a bobcat when it woke up while she was driving.
The Bangor Police Department says the animal followed her when she jumped out of her vehicle.
After the Maine Game Warden caught the bobcat they say they had to euthanize it because it was dying and in pain.

when i was up north by coworker grand mother had one for years and never realize sey it was not a regular cat

dem did think sey it was jus a bigger cat( it wasnt 4 foot long) that was kinda skittish..and dem did jus think sey his tail had been cut off by accident

no it was very friendly wid the grandmother but would hide when other ppl came to the house.

no max is about 12 i think. or maybe a little more. but he's not skittish . and if he is a bobcat, me will just have to watch him good to make sure him doan try kill me when him think i sleeping

Facts about bobcats

Diet & Behavior:
Bobcats are usually active from dusk until dawn. Bobcats are very patient and stalk their prey. Their main prey items include cottontail rabbits, woodchucks, squirrels, chipmunks, mice, voles, snowshoe hares and birds. Occasionally, bobcats will eat old, sick or young deer. Bobcats tend to be opportunists and will feed on most small mammals.

Reproduction:
Bobcats breed between January and May. After a gestation period of 60-62 days, two to three kittens will be born. The kittens will stay with the female for a year. Females will have several dens within her territory, with one main den and several auxiliary dens to use for temporary shelter. Male bobcats do not help raise the young.

Bobcats can jump up to 10 feet! Bobcats sometimes cache their food by covering it with leaves, snow or sticks to eat it at a later time. While bobcats have great vision, they have a very poor sense of smell.
