I am hoping to save a few hundreds at the grocery store this summer. mi may post some pics later. I decided to do some "container" gardening caw it was easier than digging up di garden beds weh di previous owner clearly spent nuff time planting flowers (but mi plant some food mongst the flowas dem still).

so dis is wah mi have:

1. kale
2. chard
3. 4 kinda lettuce
4. 2 kinda squash
5. 3 kinda tomatis
6. beets
7. peas
8. bok choy
9. cabbage
10. peppers
11. basil (inside)
12. thyme
13. oregano
14. peppermint

some of these were started from seeds. had so much I had to be giving it away!

It will be awhile before we can even THINK about garden here. I just took this picture about an hour ago. On Friday we got a foot of snow. It's snowing right now 4 to 8 inches and they say another possible FOOT on Wed/Thursday! \0/

BTW, can I make a plea for some scotch bonnet seeds? Kind Pepper sent me some last year, it was a bit late for a start but I thought what the heck. I got them to sprout and they had 2 sets of leaves. What ended up happening is I fried them in the heat next to my south facing garage wall in July. It was probably 130 degrees along the wall and they were just babies. Lesson learned.

Gardening 2013

It has been cooler than usual here in DC. I put up a temporary barrier fence around my raised garden beds to keep out both dogs. The fence looks something like the picture below. It wasn't hard to do and it is working well

I put in 5 tomato plants already and this year I'm not using the usual tomato wire cages. Instead I am using regular wooden stakes to which I will use plant velcro to train the tomato plants. So the veg garden this year will have:

• Tomatoes - 3 varieties: black (like the Kumato), yellow grape, red
• Pattypan squash
• Scotch bonnet
• Spinach - flat leaf

In containers I have:

• Thyme
• Oregano
• Sage
• Lemon herb
• Garlic
• Chives
• Cilantro

The rosemary is growing in the front yard among the azalea and spirea. And the spearmint and peppermint are spreading nicely under a maple tree where nothing else will grow.

In Ontario, except for tulips which we plant in the fall, we know not to put the garden in until after Victoria Day weekend. There is still the possibilitiy of snow.

Where I lived for 7 1/2 years was a corner lot with huge backyard. This will be the first year in decades I don't have a garden as I have relocated to a condo where all that is done for me.

No cutting grass, no watering lawn, no planing, no weeding for the first time in decades. No more getting rid of dandelions everyday. No pruning of raspberry bush.

The tulips look absolutely beautiful and I didn't have to do a thing to enjoy them.

I had a beautiful balcony garden when I lived in the apartment. ... Garden going in on Sunday... Mr T commit the day to me and my projects which includes extending the deck

I'll send you some, Nookie. After my seeds from Pepper failed due to my own negligence I sent away to Whatcom Seed in Eugene, OR, and got some hot Jamaican yellow scotch bonnet pepper seeds. Planted four seedlings last year and reaped a bumper crop.

Well I am no where near 84 but it is a relief to not have to shovel snow off the driveway and scrape the car in winter. When my son was with me all year we shared the yard work and it was fun. Last few years, I have done it all on my own and since the lot was so huge, it was getting to be a bit much for me to handle all by myself plus run a business. My son helped when he was home but there was so much to do. I will miss putting in the garden part though.
