Greets all. I have been meaning to come and post an update for a long time, but I'm busier than a one legged woman in a butt kicking contest these days and then to add to that, trying to remember how to post pics here.
Can you believe Helga will be TWO years old next month already? I can't.
The Princess of Everything is out sunning herself at this moment, more explanation on that later.
I'll start with Paris, Princess of everything. This was last week after she had a Spring overhaul. We grew this fun trim over Winter. It is called the "Continental". The HCC, or "Historically Correct Continental" would have the hip poms that you see on the show dogs. Lest you get any ideas that this is all "foo foo" and crazy hair etc.., first know why this trim exists in the first place.
Poodles were bred as hunting dogs, first and foremost. They are water retrievers and excel in the sport. That said, now we have the coat style. The big hair on the chest to the back of the ribs was designed to keep the orginal hunting dogs warm in cold water while working. The hair we call "bracelets" was designed to keep the joints of the Poodle warm while they are working in cold waters, and so where the "hip poms" you see in the show dogs today.
Almost no one but show people keep their Standard Poodle in a Continental Trim, the difference in the hunting trim and show trim is the amount of hair on the top ot the head and neck is grown to extreme. I believe Paris is the only Standard Poodle in this area sporting a Continental, and it is a bit of work but she is so darned cute she needs to have it.
She LOVES to wear bows and it is part of the ritual on bath day to have bows put in her hair and she gets to show off. Adventures are mandatory after a groom and so are pictures. She expects it, as you can see.

She is pure diva Princess through and through. In this picture, we had just finished a photo session down by the lake and decided to wander downtown. I have never once been turned away from any store with the Princess by my side. Store owners just smile and grin and ogle at her Highness. In one such store I noticed Paris's reflection in the mirror, and since my camera was around my neck I thought I would sit her in front of the mirrors and get a reflection shot.
She was SUPPOSED to be looking at at me.
