Nanook and other dog whisperers ... I got my dobie neutered

Ok... well the good news is he has sired 13 healthy Doberman puppies with the beautiful and leggy Athena LOL!

After much decision making, we decided to get him neutered. This operation happened last Thursday, and Friday I took him home. Since he's home, he has not eaten anything. I gave him one of those big bones and he went at it with much gusto...and puked it out later. He's been sleeping a lot... more than normal. It is just the sleeping and no eating that is not normal and making me worried.

I always mix a teaspoon if olive oil in his food...he loves it this way but not eating. I'm thinking of cooking up some ground beef and tun cornmeal in his food but mi nuh know if this old time Jamaican dog food mix may work. I'm scared of stirring up his belly .... and .... he has not been to potty since Friday. Anyone has any suggestion?

He's a very big Doberman... happy as ever... and still a pup.

I don't really have any advice as mine is a smaller breed dog and when he got neutered other than having to wear the cone of shame he was totally fine.

Did he get sent home with any pain meds?

I think turn cornmeal might be too heavy if his stomach is upset. I think ground beef boiled in rice is the recommended for dogs not feeling well.

Is he drinking water? that is the most important

Amoxicillin 2x per day.

I just found a doberman board and seeing a post where folks suggested ground beef mixed with rice to stimulate diet. I'm reading more and it seem to be the consensus. Will go with trying ground beef boiled in rice. Not yet sure if I should mix it in his regular feed or give it to him separately... reading more.

I would give it to him without the regular food.

the penicillin might be upsetting his tummy and sleeping might be just part of the healing process.
I think he will probably be back to normal one the prescription is done and he is all healed up.

Tanya is right.

BUT, if you KNOW your dog can digest chicken easily - chicken is easier to digest than beef is.
OTOH, if you DON'T know how your dog's stomach handles chicken, DO NOT CHANCE IT because many dogs can't digest chicken and can get sick from it!

Either boiled (or microwaved) beef or chicken with steamed plain white rice. Chop the meat/bird into the rice and mix it up.
Feed this ^ to him INSTEAD of his regular dog food - not with it, Sandi.

He did... it took a whole week. He's back to his usual romping and being a happy pooch. I'm so relieved... dog had me worried for several days.
