when pets kill your kids

The two young brothers were having a sleepover at their best friend’s home in Campbellton, N.B., camped out in the living room as they so often did.

Only on Monday morning, they never woke up.

Connor and Noah Barthe, aged 7 and 5, were found dead after an African rock python escaped from its enclosure in a pet shop and strangled them in their friend’s apartment during the night.

The two-storey building with the apartment also houses Reptile Ocean, the exotic pet shop owned by their friend’s father, Jean-Claude Savoie.

RCMP Const. Julie Rogers-Marsh said the python apparently slithered into the ventilation system and ended up in the living room, where the boys were sleeping.

that story sounds fishy though. they usually bite before they soffocate - poor kids would have yelped pretty loud. i can imagine the freaks that keep these things around kids. funny how the owner's own son wasn't killed.

That is so sad Years ago I did a tour at a private school for my kids and the administrator took us into a room which had a big glass cage. The cage was empty and hear her "oh our pet snake is out; we usually let him roam around the room during break". That end the tour right there for me. Is one thing fe go zoo go see dem; but fe show and tell fe kids or fe pet is another thing.

well those parents of the deceased children had pictures all up in their facebook with them in the enclosures, and cleaning the thing. i saw pictures of the *home* and it was more or less a dirty shack. the kids didn't even get a bath after petting animals in a zoo - so they smelled like animals when they went to bed. the snake was allowed free rein in the home. it wasn't in an enclosure.

there's also pictures of those two boys standing on a wet ledge washing out the enclosures - ledge must have been six feet high.
