Garden Reflections on Summer 2013

The summer started out well and I reaped tomatoes, eggplant, calalloo, and squash ... mussi two times .

The rain seemed to have killed the squash and the tomatoes did not do as well as in other years.

Calalloo was overtaken with bugs but I managed to reaped a fairly decent crop for a few Sunday breakfasts. I had to resort to using EcoSmart Organic Bug Spray which is just a mixture of plant oils that act as a repellent.

So, on the whole, a disappointing summer for the vegetable crop.

Not my best summer garden except for the lettuce which I am still eating. But was able to reap beets, carrots, bok choy, spinach, peas, green and yellow beans, tomatoes, red green and orange peppers, red and yellow tomotoes and grape tomatoes, a few radishes, green onions, thyme, fennel, parsley and a few strawberries and 3 cucumbers. I have corn plants and there is some corn ears but I dont think them will get to mature since winter is next week and my calaloo almost ready for breakfast. My fault started the garden late and got busy with work so never paid enough attention.

Mommy did not have much luck with her Camarillo don't know what eat up the leads so bad. She got some sweet peppers, scotch bonnet did well and string beans.

Not much grows in my neck of the woods during summer. I reaped no tomatoes, maybe 4 scotch bonnets, basil, thyme, and scallions. Callaloo popped up in a couple areas of the yard that I didn't plant, and very sparse in the designated section where I sprinkled seeds.

I planned on turning over my soil this week. Planting season starts next month.

MrKia's garden did well this year but got very wild & free after we were gone for two weeks.

We started with neat beds with specific plants

Surprise cucumbers (we did not plant them this year)

Okra

Tomatoes - the smaller tomatoes did very well

Butternut Squash, Acorn Squash

Buggy Callaloo - Food grade diametaceous earth did not help much

Lettuce - we did not plant Kale this year as we got tired of it last year
