Melissa
Bachman, a keen hunter who makes programmes on the American outdoors, posted a
photograph on Facebook and Twitter of her holding a rifle and smiling beside the
corpse of a male lion.

“Incredible day in South Africa,” the self-styled
“hardcore huntress” said of her pursuits at the Maroi Conservancy, adding:
“Stalked inside 60-yards on this beautiful male lion … what a hunt!”

A furious online reaction led Bachman to deactivate her Facebook and Twitter pages within hours. It also prompted an online petition asking the South African
government to bar her from returning.




“She
is an absolute contradiction to the culture of conservation this country prides
itself on,” said Elan Burman of Cape Town, the author of the petition, which
quickly gathered 3,000 signatures.

No different dan going tuh ah say a trout farm to fish. Yuh pretty much guarantee ah catch. Dem track di lions an pretty much kno we dem deh within di compound. Dem mek it easy soh dem can collect di big money from di group an di wealthy. I knew ah woman like dat years ago. Shi was one ah mi manufacturers, Yuh goh inna har office an all yuh si all ova di walls was di dead heads of all dem African animals whe shi ah boast bout killing. By di way, jus tuh clarify, mi comments apply equally tuh men who hunt in dat manner.

I read that there are fewer than 40,000 lions remaining in the wild, so it's reckless for countries to allow their legal hunting.
