The daughter of the great Stephen Hawkins, took my two elder children to a talk by her... as part of the UK science week
They enjoyed the hell out of it.. so did i... She covered all the great stuff, Black Holes, spagettification, time travel, colonization of space, Titan, cosmology..I even recorded part of the lecture on my mobile phone! More importantly she defined science in a way that i hadnt heard before..as the necessity of imagination... the imagination to connect two different ideas...
It did however make me feel that i wasted what ever talent i had, i should have had a career in academic science rather than blowing ****e up and destruction of various things through the explosive transfer of energy... ah the unfullfiled life.. any way am not smart wnough for that....
She did introduce a new concept of cosmology that i hadnt heard before, yet unproven....that there is conservation of mass / energy in a black hole... notihing that the goes into a black hole is destroyed given that the energy in form of radiation that a black hole emits will over time be equal to the material that enters its even horizon....
She is an attractive blond.. she was smart funny....communicated well..
She has written three books for young adults
I got all three her books signed (one for each!) and son 1 was so engaged he put down his pad and read through the first one in a day....course i was fawning over her like a 12 year old at a one direction concert.. yes i know it is her father that is the genius..... yes i had to apologise to children as i explained to them that smart is sexy....
But i did make a point to her on the possibility of time travel that rocked her back on her heels
