Big daughter came home last weekend from her volunteer stint.

Friday evening - dinner with extened family
Saturday all day - fren and company
Sunday morning - brunch with daddy
Sunday afternoon - couple hours wid mommy den plane ride back to quebec.

Notice when and hummuch time she deh wid mommy

She's been away for two months, and has already grown away from me. I spotted glimpses of my old daughter, but saw more of the new person she's growing into, someone i have to say that right now is a bit of a stranger.

it's all good, i guess...

thanks, danna and tanya. i'm trying not to feel sorry for myself, because i think this is what i wanted for her - the chance to gain some independence and to learn how to make her way in the world.

when she talks about walking home from &quot;work&quot; in chicoutimi, taking about an hour to do it- i get fearful that people will be flinging racial slurs at her as she goes by. but she just laughs and says no, that's not what happens. in fact she's befriended a couple of the chicoutimi youths. (by the way, nuff a dem a cokehead, she say )

i'll post a pic of her from this weekend when i get a chance.

Somehow I missed this thread from the beginning. MGee your daughter is extraordinarily beautiful. It sounds as though she is on a wonderful journey. I'm sure you must be beeming with pride!

Thanks, Nanook. I marvel sometimes at the goodlookingness of my daughters. yet the older one still sometimes suffers from a lack of confidence, believe it or not.

Big Dawta in the Home Stretch

heard from Dawta #1 this weekend. She's now in Grande Prairie, Alberta, fascinated by the place:
*dem have loooong days, sakea being in the north. she seh in summer dem lucky to have 6 hours of night.
*nuff Aboriginals, wid nuff issues, including diabetes among the women
*place is flat and yellow - i guess that's why it call prairie
*she's apparently found the two black folks living in Grande Prairie, and suspects one of them is Jamaican.

she's in her final three months of this voluntarism stint. after a major crisis in January (where we actually stopped speaking to each other because she wanted to come home after leaving Quebec for British Columbia and i told her no), she's settled in and has embraced the program.

she's now a vegetarian, after her group learned about environmental issues in BC.

can i say that i feel validated as a parent for standing firm and insisting that she stick out the program?

i won't mention about being petrified that we won't &quot;recognize&quot; each other when she returns in July.
