My new Grandson is here!!!

I am finally a MiMi!! It's a wonderful feeling!

My daughter called me around 11:30am Friday and said her water had broken and she'd just gotten to the hospital. Within 3 hours she was at 2 cm and I told her it was gonna be a long day, and it was. We went from 2cm to 4cm at 7pm then to 5 1/2cm close to 10 pm. Around 11ish, I finally fell asleep waiting.

She called me at 12:19 to say that Christian was born at 12:10. He was due on January 15th, so he's a preemie. He weighed 4 lb 10 oz. 17 3/4 inches. Long skinny feet. And he's already tuff. He got 2 shots already and did not flinch or even wake up. His middle name is Louis after his Grandfather Joe Louis.

We were hoping for the 12th because she turned 25 on the 11th. He is still a wonderful birthday present for her. Mom and Baby are doing fine. Her Mom made it there (FL) from here (GA) around 9:30pm and made the birth. She's a riot! Mom said that she was horrible and punked out several times during the birth. Poor Christian's head came out and she "sucked" him back in. He came out with this tiny cone shaped head. But thank God he is healthy and well. Hopefully I can get down there to see them soon.

BTW..for those who don't know or remember, my "daughter" is a young lady I met as a teenager and she began to call me her Moma and it stuck. Kimmy calls her "my big sistah". So her Mom is G'Mama and I am MiMi. What a shared blessing!

Thanks a lot! As soon as Mom gets out of the nail salon and the WalMart store, , maybe I can get a picture or two to show you. He is such a cutie patootie! He looks like his 3 year old big brother and Dad. Big brother told her that Christian was his baby and he's taking him home and Mom can stay at the Hospital.

I need some opinions from birth moms. When you had your first baby, how long did you stay in the house when you came home from the hospital? Did you go out of the house outside of Doctor's appointments at least the first month?

My daughter is 25 and has been out of the house since the day she came home! The first day, she dropped the baby at home with Dad and went to the Nail Shop. The next day, she went out for preemie clothes because all she had was newborn. The next day was a Doctor's appointment and she went to WalMart. She has also been back there to drop film and pick up the baby's prescription and to show him to co-workers. Shopping for Ivory Snow to wash his clothes. The gas station.

The baby was taken to WalMart one day last week to take pictures. Mom went to the hospital 2 nights ago around 11pm and stayed until morning because the baby's aunt had a preemie via c-section. Mind you, my little mom is nursing. Thank God for breast pumps.

I have been so angry with her for that and she insists she "feels fine" and see's no reason why she should not go out. Those of us being concerned are just "old fashioned". She's also planning to move from FL to GA within a week or so dragging a 4 lb preemie who will not be a month old. What is the world coming to??

Coincidentally, she started a domino affect. She had Christian early on 12/13. Her cousin had her baby early a few days later. The Aunt had her's early on 12/20. Her best friend went into labor yesterday and she's due in Feb. They stopped her contractions I think.

nothing is wrong with going out with the baby if you have to...exposing them to alot of new ppl means exposing them to alot of new germs so crowds aren't healthy...i went to docs appointments when the babies were only a couple days old...and they did their pics at 10 days old...but the baby is a 4lb premie..not much in the way of resistance their with immature lungs..i wouldnt go out of my way to expose the baby during the height of cold and flu season

Re Birth moms... I think like you on this one, it's one thing to take a day or afternoon every once in a while to pick up or do the necessities, but dragging a newborn all over the place, especially a preemie, is a bit over the top - they should be at home resting -and <span style="font-weight: bold">receiving </span>a few visitors. IMO

if the baby is at risk according to the Pediatrician's order then I suppose they both should be home.

if everybody is healthy, then it really should not be an issue

I was on a plane with my baby very soon after birth. I had places to go, people to see and a life to live

WOW! I feel real old fashioned after reading this. On a plane?

Well, Christian is a preemie and she's complaining of back pains from the epidural shot and all and she's in the streets as we speak. She's not thinking properly or going to necessary places. She's doing too much too soon and I feel that later she will pay for it physically. I pray she don't and manage to do fine like you did Gen, but you were probably a more responsible adult than she is being. She's a good girl and will take care of her baby because she's taken care of everybody else's but she's just not being wise in my opinion.

She's been pretty defensive due to people telling her that she should not be outside the house. She claims there were no discharge instructions about when Christian or herself should be out other than Dr's appointments. That is so hard to believe with a 4 lb preemie. Even though he has no health concerns or issues.

Last night she was at the hospital with him visiting the child's Aunt and plans to spend today with her dragging Christian along. She says the hospital said the new Mom cannot be left alone in her room because she had a c-section. Pure rubbish! This baby is 6 lbs along with her cousins baby that was recently born. She says the new baby looks like a Sumo wrestler to Christian. More of a reason she should keep him at home. He's too tiny to be out. Like Skelly said, it's flu season and it's not safe.

You can't tell these new younger moms anything. My mother always told me women weren't allowed by their families to barely lift a finger after coming home with a baby. And don't even think about doing any stairs. Babies used to not come out for weeks after being born. I guess it's a different mindset now. I personally think that other than appointments Moms should wait at least 3 weeks. Even that seems short. I guess if the doctor said ok then it's ok. Congrats on the new arrival post pics
