The Georgia Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Jan. 12 in the divorce case of a Fayette County couple where the ex-husband is trying to overturn a lower court order that he not be allowed to bring the couple’s four children around his “homosexual partners and friends.”
Eric Mongerson is also contesting nine other alleged “errors” made by the initial trial court in his 2005 divorce from Sandy Mongerson, including the “grossly excessive” alimony he was ordered to pay his ex-wife in addition to child support.
In court documents, Sandy Mongerson accused her ex-husband of engaging “in a series of affairs with other men” while the couple was still married; she also argues that Eric Mongerson and his parents verbally and physically abused the couple’s children during a trip to Arkansas.
The initial trial judge indicated that his ruling, including prohibiting the father from taking the children around gay friends, was not influenced by Eric Mongerson’s sexual orientation.
“The trial court’s order is merely a ruling that reflects the trauma inflicted upon the children by their father during the Arkansas trip,” the trial court judge wrote.
