I don't quite get why anyone would be checking hymen to begin with knowing fully well that "it" can be broken just by riding a bike, horse riding, sports, athletic etc

what's the point really ?

let's say it is broken, are you then going to demand that the Dr check the surrounding tissue mthly? even that still nuh prove that the girl having sex ?

Das juss traumatic man. Unno should not do dem something deh to lickle pickney. Mi used to have a friend in Ja. weh har fada (yes unno read it carreckly - FADA) did check fi it. Di pickney did so traumatise dat to dis day shi nuh chat to di parents dem. Mi did personally feel seh sinting did kinky wid har daddy, but \0/

Mi would nevah do that. Mi woulda hope seh mi would have a trusting relationship wid di dawta dat shi will feel free to tell mi dem things dere b4 it get too far. Mi couldn't si miself checking fi di hymen or have some docta/stranga doing same. No sah, dat is beyond invasion, an crossing into abuse

Well mekk wi come up wid something else then...since the hymen check is so out of order...and the morality training doesn't seem to be sinking in...and the family unit is not getting any stronger based on the <span style="font-style: italic">more modern</span> views and methods of living...

That doctor who is examining her own daughter, her behaviour is bordering on incest. It is a no-no in medicine for a family member to treat another, muchless to examine their privates for the reasons mentioned.

Any parent who has to resort to &quot;hymen check&quot; is having a serious communication problem with that child...and who to tell if the child HAS TO/WILL allow that inspection, even if the parent says so...that is repugnant as someone else said.

Children have rights too..some women from a certain country [won't call noh name] tell me that most of their teen girls were virgins but they were deep [pawd'n the pun] into lesbianism...satisfied, but still a virgin for their husbands to be...so the question becomes can a young girl's morality be based on having an intact hymen?

The hymen idea is merely a <span style="font-style: italic">metaphor</span>, I think, for parents grasping at straws, or at anything, to have their daughters behaving more responsibly and with more decorum.

No matter how we put it, there are too many babies being born outside of a family unit and subsequently, into too much pain and distress.

That's the real issue.

but shandra, hymen checks don't have anything to do with morality. they have to do with trust, or lackthereof. they have to do with power, and in some ways, oppression of women and girls. in that sense, IMO, hymen checks are immoral.

strengthening of the family unit and prevention of pregnancies in unmarried girls have to do with a whole lot of other issues to which, IMO, hymen checks are incidental.

Not that it matters to me because I think it's wrong on every level, but the Doctor that gave her daughter the hymen checks is from Jamaica. Initially, I thought it was a Jamaican thing when I heard about it but then I just figured she did it because she was a Doctor and would not be able to find another Doctor to do it. I don't know her motive or reasoning. I wondered &quot;so what if it's broken, what will she do?&quot; She can't fix it back. But the relationship with her daughter seems to be great.

This is the same woman who, off topic, to find out if her husband is cheating, she draws his bath and says he'd better be &quot;sinking and not floating&quot;. Lot of security and controlling issues there I think.

In my opinion, checking the hymen of your daughter is not with the intent to *protect* her as the parent will prolly justify, but it's really to degrade her and to treat her as a second class citizen.

Their sons will not be subjected to any such indignities - but their daughters will???? In '09????

Whatever happened to the emancipation of women and being treated equally????

The whole idea of hymen checking (unless it's to check whether a rape has occurred) is regressive and subjugating.

Talk about pi$$ing on women's liberation and emancipation.

Well, Tyra has a show on today as I speak about Moms who spy on their children. She is showing a woman who sniffs her daughters to smell saliva and men cologne on them. She checks for hickeys and admittedly does strip searches. She reads their diaries. Her girls are 15 and 16. She got pregnant on her first time and does not want them to be the same way because they have &quot;dreams and aspirations&quot; that she want them to reach without following her footsteps. Now that is extreme as well!
