The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that whether or not they live under the same roof, Black dads are actually more involved with their children than their white and Latino counterparts, spending more time feeding, dressing, playing with and reading to their children.
According to “The Journal of the National Medical Association,” the acceptance of the existence of a matriarchal hierarchy has been a major misconception regarding Black families. Black females are described as domineering and Black men as subordinate or absent.
However, studies on the power relationship in Black families found that roles in Black families tended to be egalitarian with great adaptability.
Partial families are said to have extreme difficulty raising children and providing appropriate socialization experiences.
According to “The Journal of the National Medical Association,” while looking at educational aspirations as a measure of enculturation, Black youths from single-parent homes have been shown to go to college as frequently as Black children from two-parent homes
Even though approximately 72 percent of African-American children are raised in single-parent homes, the Pew Research Center estimates that 67 percent of Black dads who don’t live with their kids see them at least once a month, compared to white dads at 59 percent and Hispanic dads at 32 percent.
African-Americans are the most likely of all ethnic groups to emphasize the importance of postsecondary education, according to a 2013 Houston Education Survey by Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research.
