School Waivers

My son brought home a waiver from the school rock climbing gym.

In it, it basically said that they would not be held responsible if anything happened to the kid, even if <span style="font-style: italic">the gym's</span> equipment was found to be faulty.

They said they understand that the undersigned would be giving up their rights but a just so it go.



Now, you tell me, would you sign? Apparently, most parents have... and it leaves me to wonder if parents really read these things before putting down their mark...

all the parents should refuse to have their children on the rock climbing equipment till the school assumes some responsibility should something happen to the child

And he was standing there with this expectant look on his face. He'd already signed and dated it...

I really don't think the parents read these things - or maybe they don't understand what they're reading... cause...

i think i've heard that legally you cannot sign away the right to sue if something happens to your child and it's been shown that the school is at fault. they cannot opt out of legal liability.

i think someone whose son had a peanut allergy told me that.

you right. thats why there is insurance policies in effect for liability

here when kids play sports they sign away their rights if the kid is hurt.
Unless the school is found to be neglegent (which lawyers make sure they never are)
