This past week my dad suffered something (could be a stroke, doctors still not sure exactly) that has left him mentally impaired. Anyway, fortunately for us (his children) he had set up a power of attorney agreement which left my sister to act on his behalf regarding his finances, property, assets along with any decisions regarding his personal care.
We are all so glad he made these arrangements because if he hadn't there would be a lot of added stress on us trying to access his accounts to pay his bills and file his income tax return etc... . We have pretty much everything set up now to keep him out of financial hot water and we can spend more time visiting with him at the hospital.
Just a reminder to all the parents to not waste any time in making these arrangements. You never know what life has in store for you and when things like this come they come quickly without any warning.
